Relaxed holidaying in a peaceful, characterful cottage
Set in the heart of the village of Rumburgh, close to the Suffolk Heritage Coast, Wheelwright’s Cottage makes an ideal holiday retreat for two or three people. Adjoining our own property, the light and airy open plan cottage is the old wheelwright’s workshop and is renovated to an excellent standard, retaining many of the original features, including beams and oak flooring.
The local area
The cottage is furnished and equipped with everything you require to make your stay a pleasant one. Visitors have their own front garden and enclosed back courtyard garden (with garden furniture provided) and are also free to explore the eco-campsite and its small reception area with produce for sale and information about the area available. Guests can enjoy visiting Southwold with its pier and lighthouse and Walberswick. Minsmere (RSPB), Dunwich and Aldeburgh, well known for its music festival, are nearby. The fine city of Norwich and The Broads are also within easy reach. Rumburgh is a pleasant, friendly village and home to the popular, dog friendly, Rumburgh Buck (which has been awarded Suffolk CAMRA pub of the year and does excellent food). It is only 500 metres away from the cottage. The nearest shops are 4 miles away, in Halesworth.
The cottage - what's included?
The ground floor of the cottage is an open plan kitchen, living and dining room with beams, traditional floor and a utility room and toilet. On the first floor there is one large double bedroom with a king size bed (an additional single bed available on request) and a shower room with toilet. We hope the cottage is furnished with everything you need. This includes bed linen, towels, digital TV, DVD player, iPod dock, electric cooker, microwave, fridge with freezer box, washing machine, Wi-Fi and a welcome pack. Parking is available for 2 cars, cycle store is available by arrangement and 2 friendly pets are welcome free of charge. We operate a no smoking policy in the property.
We enable, and encourage, guests to have a sustainable holiday. We focus on appreciating the environment, countryside and local resources around us - using them sustainably and sensitively, ensuring a better future for our planet.
We provide a kitchen compost bin for all compostable waste, we provide a recycling box for all recyclable waste, we provide only eco-friendly cleaning products (including hand soap and washing liquid), we discourage the use of disposable products (instead providing bags for shopping, 'tupperware' tubs for storage and bag clips to reseal bags) and supply fairtrade sugar, tea and coffee and organic milk (or milk purchased from our local 'Milk Shed' (ask us for information about raw milk).
Stay local and have more time on holiday
We also provide lots of information about visiting local towns and attractions, have walks that you can do from the cottage door and are happy to make recommendations of places to eat, drink, shop, walk and visit - to reduce your need to use your car and take away the stress of travelling too far for things.
