Places to Visit

Green Haven is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing, low environmental impact holiday in the Suffolk countryside. We are just 20 minutes from Suffolk’s stunning Heritage coastline and close to the lovely seaside towns and villages of Southwold, Aldeburgh, Walberswick and Dunwich as well as the RSPB nature reserve at Minsmere. Nearby are the traditional market towns Halesworth, Beccles, Bungay and Framlingham and we are also within easy reach of both Norwich and The Broads. We think the following places are well worth a visit


Halesworth – A small market town with a range of independent shops and pedestrianised High Street and small Coop. Market Day is a Wednesday. Halesworth is about 10 minutes in the car. For more information on Halesworth, click here

Bungay – A small market town with a range of independent shops and a small Coop. Market Day is a Thursday. Bungay is about 10 minutes in the car. For more information on Bungay, click here

Southwold and Walberswick – Southwold is a busy coastal town with a sandy beach and excellent high street with a many places to eat and shop. Southwold is home of the Adnams Brewery. Over the river from Southwold is Walberswick. Walberswick is a picturesque seaside village and its creeks and rivers are a great place for crabbing. Walberswick is regularly voted as one of the most desirable places to live in the UK. Southwold and Walberswick are about 25 minutes in the car. Framlingham – Another picturesque market towm, home of Framlingham Castle and Ed Sheeran and the TV show The Detectorists. Framlingham is about 30 minutes in the car. For more information on Framlingham, click here

Beccles – A larger town that has a mix of many independent shops and some bigger brand names including Tesco, Morrison’s and Lidl.  Sitting on the River Waveney, Beccles is the gateway to the southern Broads and day boat hire is available from here. The town also has an excellent popular Lido. Beccles is about 20 minutes in the car. For more information on Beccles, click here

Aldeburgh and Thorpeness – Aldebrugh is a busy coastal town having an excellent high street with many places to shop and eat. Aldeburgh is home Benjamin Britten, an annual food festival and very tasty fish and chips. Along from Aldeburgh is Thorpeness, a ‘model’ seaside village and a perfect place to hire a boat and row on the mere. Aldeburgh and Thorpeness are about 40 minutes in the car. Dunwich Heath, Beach and RSPB Minsemere – Another quaint seaside village  Dunwich is situated next to forest and heathland. Along from Dunwich is RSPB Minsmere, a world renowned nature reserve and previously home to the BBC Springwatch programme. Dunwich and Minsmere are about 35 minutes in the car. Woodbridge and Rendlesham Forest – Wodbridge is a busy market town situated on the banks of the River Deben. Adjacent to Woodbridge is Rendlesham Forsest with numerous trails and walking routes, the UFO trail being the most well known. Woodbridge and Rendlesham Forest are about 45 minutes in the car. Orford and Orford Ness – Orford is a small seaside village, with a range of good pubs, shops, cafes and a castle. Just offshore is Orford Ness. Currently a world recognised nature reserve, for many years Orford Ness was a military testing site and has been described as one of the most extraordinary places in Britain. Great Yarmouth – A traditional British seaside town. Great Yarmouth has amusements, fun fairs and miles of beach. Great Yarmouth is about 45 minutes in the car. For more information on Great Yarmouth, click here

Norwich – A fine city, complete with a castle, cathedral, medieval streets, thriving market and modern shopping. Norwich is about 45 minutes in the car. For more information on Norwich, click here
